The King’s Entrepreneurship Prize is one of the largest equity-free university entrepreneurship competitions in the UK, designed to support members of the King’s College community in developing innovative ideas into commercially viable or socially impactful ventures.
Established in 2014, the competition aims to encourage entrepreneurship by helping participants turn creativity, expertise, and research into sustainable products, services, and organisations. Past winners have gone on to build ventures across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, engineering, robotics, communications, and consumer products.
The competition combines funding with mentoring, feedback, and exposure to experienced entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders. Applicants progress through several stages, beginning with a short business idea submission before developing increasingly detailed proposals. Finalists present their ventures at the Lyons Den, a live pitching event where they present to a panel of judges drawn from the King’s Fellowship and alumni community with expertise in entrepreneurship, investment, and business development.
Alongside the opportunity to compete for a first prize of up to £20,000, participants receive feedback, guidance, and connections that can help them refine their business models, raise further funding, and bring their ideas to market. As both a competition and a development programme, the Prize plays an important role in supporting entrepreneurship across the King’s College ecosystem.
